BRB, Brain dying

Posted on: February 6, 2011

Never, ever attempt to cram your real work, teaching life and MA life all in one day.

I spent half the day writing a paper on the history of Women’s magazines in the Philippines using Althusser’s Ideological State Apparatuses, Gramsci’s theory of Hegemony and Post-colonial Feminist criticism.I’ve done 6 pages and I’m not even halfway done.

Hours later, I had to revise my client’s work and I have to lay-down the CMYK color pallet for the packaging design I’m working on.

A few minutes after that, I worked on two of my lessons for the next day, one about conceptualizing using mind-mapping and the other the rules in designing and desktop publishing. I’m not done with the second lesson plan yet actually because my brain is officially fried. I was tempted to create my own syllabus because the flow of topics in the syllabus template wasn’t in line with the activities I had in mind. I was also starting to get irritated over little things around the house so I tried calming myself down by playing Oregon trail on facebook.

I know, LOL.

Anyway kids, the lesson for the day is cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort felt in the discrepancy between two conflicting ideas or beliefs. The tendency for a person with cognitive dissonance is to either reject the new contradicting belief or completely change his ideology and beliefs so that it no longer becomes uncomfortable for his psyche.

In my case, I’m whoring myself to libertarianism and at the same time, criticizing it’s influence in the socio-political spheres of Women in the Philippines. Believe me, the discomfort is unnerving and annoying. I ended up irritable and played something rather brainless to appease my brain.

IF you’ve reached this far well… thanks for reading my rant. You’re awesome. Or really bored.
